They are back! Amateur rugby trophies organized by La Dépêche du Midiin partnership with the Lot departmental rugby committee, return for their third edition. To celebrate the actors of this 2023/2024 season, marked by great sporting successes in our department, it is through the presentation of numerous prizes that each cog in the discipline will be celebrated.

Today, it’s time for the best Regional 2 & 3 players in the department. There are three nominees and one of them will try, thanks to your votes, to become the winner of these amateur rugby trophies version 2024. The jury has decided to put three in competition: Guillaume Beffrieu, Benjamin Roques and Jérôme Vidal.

Guillaume Beffrieu (La Chataigneraie)

At 38 years old, Guillaume Beffrieu plays the second line position in the Bagnaco-Maursoise de Châtaigneraie-Célé team. A courageous captain, solid in combat, and without ever weakening, he manages his team with intelligence and foresight and knows when it is necessary to harangue and re-motivate the troops. A formidable fighter, always remained loyal to Bagnac-Maurs. If everyone is unanimous in praising his commitment to the field, they all recognize his kindness, his seriousness and the contribution he brings to his sport. From this boy who has been playing rugby since the age of 21, we can only hear his vision of the game: “It is a complete team sport, which mobilizes multiple skills and therefore diverse and varied profiles of people. This is what makes it rich.”

Diligent in training, it is with the humility and seriousness that characterizes this great man who remembers his best memory: “a French champion title obtained with Bagnac ten years ago”. Retirement age coming soon? he says it often but in any case it is towards teaching and training young people, he the engineer, that he intends to bring to others what rugby has given him.

Benjamin Roques (La Chataigneraie)

Benjamin Roques is 31 years old, a sales executive, he is a pure product of Stade Maursois, proud of his city and his club; its President says of him that he is the embodiment of the club, faithful in every way since his childhood to this entity. “Healthy, intelligent, kind, appreciated by all, it is on guys like him that the club relies and this wealth is unrivaled.” He has been practicing his scrum-half position for over fifteen years, since cadets, he knows all the tricks; the boy knows how to be aggressive and defend his ball; quick to attack, he likes to play and get involved.

The maturity he has acquired allows him to direct the game and even redirect the younger players. When asked how he sees the future he answers without hesitation “with rugby!” For 3 years he has been taking care of the U12s, obtained his coaching diplomas, and intends to “give back to Rugby what Rugby gave him”. His fondest memories: a South-West semi-final in Juniors and (he says it gently) a final of the Limousin Cup against Bagnac, final lost, but the Châtaigneraie-Célé Rally has swept away all regrets.

Jérome Vidal (Puy-l’Evêque)

“At the age of 33, I first galloped behind the ball from a very young age. It was only later and without the knowledge of my parents that I had my first rugby experience at RQL. Some Years later, I joined the Penne Saint Sylvestre team in the 47 for 4 seasons before returning to my birth department at RC Puy L'évêque where I have been playing as a 3rd wing line for two seasons already. We have a great group and we are having a great start to the season. We hope to be able to hit a mark this year.”
