The tourist office de Montmirail and its region recently moved to new premises located in the city center. It is therefore at 11 rue du Docteur Philippe Amelin what Denis Vallot will sit down on Monday, November 4, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to present his new work to the public Montmirail51: A new look. The opportunity to discover its content, “which directly affects the city’s inhabitants,” he assures.

A book on the historical origins of Montmirail

After these two previous works, Stones and Fates 1 and 2, Denis Vallot undertook a new writing which begins in the “protohistoric” period, that is to say before history, with the important marks which define the evolution of the population of Brie-Champagne. Photographs of these brands also illustrate the work. The analysis of the context of the city extends to the contemporary era of new energies with the appearance of wind power and conflicting landscape problems. “I mention it, but my book is not a partisan or militant act,” assures the author.

The men also take pride of place in this book. “ Characters have left their mark on Montmiraillike Jean de Montmirail, but also the houses, in the sense of families, which had a hold on the castle: the house of the Gondy, that of the Louvois, which were able to mark the history of Montmirail during the time of the counter-reform of Louis XIV which also strongly influenced Brie-Champagne,” confides Denis Vallot. Beyond the town circumscribed by its fortifications, the author extends beyond Montmirail into its surroundings: “we cannot speak of Montmirail without mentioning a certain number of surrounding places, such as the Château de Condé-en-Brie, which was the home of Jean de Montmirail. »
