Mass recall of eggs for risk of salmonella contamination: criteria to know if you are concerned

Health authorities issued an alert on Friday concerning eggs sold by several major brands throughout .

The cause: possible salmonella contamination.

Three other recalls were published separately on Friday, this time bearing specific batch numbers.

If you have purchased some in recent days, please do not consume them. Health authorities carried out a massive recall on Friday of boxes of eggs sold by several major brands throughout the country, due to possible salmonella contamination.

On the official Consumer Reminder website (new window)a first reminder indicates that “the Ovalis company is recalling eggs as a precaution for potentially contaminated eggs [à la] Salmonella Typhimurium”, sold by the Carrefour, Coopérative U, Auchan, Intermarché, Leclerc, Maximo brands, but also distributed in Restos du coeur.

Five brands affected

In detail, the boxes of six, ten and twelve eggs from four brands are affected by this massive recall: “Tout frais tout français”, “Douce France”, “Ovalis” and “Poitou oeufs”. These were marketed between September 29 and October 10 and are best consumed between October 24 and 31.

Also recalled are Eco+ and Leclerc brand eggs, if this time they were sold between October 3 and 24.

Three other recalls were published separately on Friday, this time bearing precise batch numbers: one concerns the Carrefour Original brand, with eggs also coming from the supplier Ovalis, another concerns batches of unbranded eggs sold by Lidl , and the last of the lots of the Eco+ brand sold by E.Leclerc.

What risk for health?

For all of these recalled eggs, it is advisable to “no more [les] consume”, of “do not use the product anymore”of the “destroy” or to “return to point of sale”according to the government website. It is recalled that “Food poisoning caused by salmonella results in gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, vomiting) that appear suddenly, often accompanied by fever and headaches which generally occur 6 hours to 72 hours after consumption of contaminated products.”

“These symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and the elderly,” it is indicated. “People who have consumed these products and who present these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor and report this consumption. In the absence of symptoms within seven days after consumption of the products concerned, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor.”underlines Rappel Conso.
