New fatal traffic accident in Franche-Comté. Friday October 25, 2024, emergency services were alerted around 12:30 p.m. of a collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a light vehicle in Etupes (Doubs), on the D61, at the bridge linking the town with the neighboring village of Brognard.

Very quickly, a dozen firefighters, an ambulance and eight police officers went to the scene. When they arrived, the driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old man, was in cardio-respiratory arrest.

The emergency services first called a helicopter to transport him urgently to the Franche-Comté hospital, while trying to resuscitate him with cardiac massage. Unfortunately, to no avail: the forty-year-old was declared dead a few minutes later.

The driver of the heavy goods vehicle (46 years old), in a state of psychological shock but physically unharmed, was transported to Trévenans hospital. Another driver, who witnessed the scene, was treated on the spot also in view of his significant state of shock. It was in fact the victim's cousin, who was following in another vehicle.

A crucial question remains unanswered: what were the circumstances that led to the tragedy? Present on site, the mayor of the commune Philippe Claudel specifies that “the victim's vehicle and the truck were crossing each other when the car suddenly deviated from its lane, hitting the heavy goods vehicle at the left wing of the truck, under the driver's cabin, almost at 45 degrees“.

He suddenly moved away, without knowing why” adds the councilor, contacted by France 3 Franche-Comté. Discomfort, fatigue… The cause of this fatal movement remains to be discovered. On site, the gendarmes carried out the usual findings: the truck involved in the accident was seized and its driver passed alcohol and drug tests, which came back negative.

The victim's body will also be analyzed in the coming days to shed light on the accident. An investigation was notably opened. On the traffic side, access to the Etupes bridge has been prohibited since 12:30 p.m. It should reopen by 4 p.m. this Friday, October 25, 2024.
