The night from Wednesday to Thursday (October 23 to 24, 2024) was marked by violent incidents in several municipalities in Guadeloupe. Burning dams, trash fires and burglary attempts required the intervention of law enforcement and firefighters in Abymes, Pointe-à-Pitre and Sainte-Rose. Several arrests took place.

Law enforcement and firefighters were put to the test during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, particularly in Abymes, Pointe-à-Pitre and Sainte-Rose.

From 10:55 p.m., trash cans and debris were set on fire on the RN5, rue du cemetery, in , blocking the road towards Morne-à-l'Eau. It was just the beginning of a long night of incidents.

In Pointe-à-Pitre, the situation quickly degenerated with several blockages reported on Légitimus, Chanzy and Anne boulevards, in the Mortenol district. At 1:14 a.m., Légitimus Boulevard was completely blocked by trash fires.

An attempted intrusion into a cell phone store was recorded, while around fifteen other outbreaks of trash fires were noted in the city.
The first arrests took place around 1 a.m. with the arrest of two minors and an adult in Perrin, in Les Abymes.

Despite the tension, no altercation with the police or firefighters has been reported, according to Alexandra Onfray, deputy prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre.
However, the firefighters' intervention was complicated when a man suffered a cardiac arrest around 2:19 a.m. The path to reach the victim was blocked by trash fires.

The night continued to be marked by episodes of violence. Two series of detonations were heard at 3 a.m. and 3:54 a.m. in Pointe-à-Pitre.

An adult, well known to the police, was arrested in flagrante delicto while trying to break into a store in the Bergevin district, the Pointe-à-Pitre Prosecutor's Office confirmed.

The authorities reinforced their presence throughout the night to prevent possible escalations.

Around 4 a.m., in Sainte-Rose, another flaming roadblock was erected in La Ramée, temporarily blocking access to the area near the town's high school. As an echo of the incidents of October 21, this action paralyzed traffic before the police restored calm in the early morning.

These events a few days after similar blockades were installed at the beginning of the week in the Rivière des Pères district of Basse-Terre.
