Three gendarmes and a 15-year-old girl injured during a refusal to comply

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, an attempted road check in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, in , turned into a dramatic chase. While the police were trying to carry out a routine check near the town’s station, a driver refused to comply.

It all started when three police officers approached a stationary vehicle. “The individual took off in a hurry, brushing against one of the gendarmes who was advancing on foot,” reports a source close to the investigation in Le Figaro. Immediately chased, the driver tried to outrun the police on the ring road.

The situation degenerated when, at exit no. 25 towards , the fugitive lost control of his vehicle at high speed. The vehicle violently struck the central reservation, causing serious damage. Also in the car was a 15-year-old girl, a front passenger, who suffered the full brunt of the impact.

Emergency services quickly took care of the two occupants. The young girl, in a state of absolute emergency, was taken to hospital. The three gendarmes, who had slowed down as they approached the exit, also hit the median. Injured, they were taken to hospital.

The first elements of the investigation reveal that the driver was under the influence of drugs. According to the authorities, he fled due to a lack of insurance. As for the teenager on board, the police confirmed that she was on the run. However, there is no indication of a kidnapping.

An investigation is underway to clarify the exact circumstances of this incident which could have turned into a tragedy.
