A 150 kilometer walk in the Landes to raise awareness of disability and collect donations

A 150 kilometer walk to make disability visible: This is what begins this Monday. The start is given at 10 a.m. in front of the town hall of Saint-Sever in Landes. The project is led by the Louna 40 association, an association created in 2020 by the parents of Louna who suffers from a rare disease.

For seven days, from Monday October 21 to Sunday October 27, the couple will cross part of the Landes : after Saint Sever, it will be Saint-Pierre-du-Mont, Campagne, Tartas, Souprosse and Mugron. Throughout, they will be accompanied by a symbolic object: a wheelchair, the red signs of the Louna 40 association plastered on the armrests.

An armchair to make disability visiblethat’s the whole point of this walk, explains Jean-Marie de Freitas, president of the association and father of Louna: ” This is to raise awareness about the issue of disability. […] Today, there are things that are inconsistent regarding disability, whether in the care or the lack of structure..”

Collect donations to finance a van

The objective is therefore to alert people to the difficulties faced by disabled people but also to collect donations. For two years, Jean-Marie has been delivering medical equipment free of charge. But he needs a van. ” This could allow me to use electric chairs because they still weigh 100-150 kilos. And then for deliveries the same. I could use the van to deliver two or three people at the same time rather than going back and forth with my own vehicle.“, he explains.

To buy his van, Jean-Marie needs 10,000 euros. A Letchi prize pool has already been launched.

After the walk, a friendship drink is also planned for Sunday October 27 at 5 p.m. in front of the Saint-Sever town halljust to close the loop.
