“This is the last great tip found by Anne Hidalgo.” Sitting on his imposing motorcycle, Yves made the trip from Ardèche to express his anger after the passage of the ring road at 50 km/h which causes the end of the inter-file. Like him, 500 bikers demonstrated this Sunday, October 20, 2024 in Paris at the call of the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC).

Experimented since 2021, this measure which allows two-wheelers to move between carshas become obsolete since October 10, because it is only applicable on roads where the speed is between 70 and 130 km/h.

“That the town hall agrees to restore the inter-file to 50 km/h! »

According to all the bikers interviewed by Paris newsthe end of the inter-file puts their health at risk. “ It’s super dangerous, because we now have to stop behind the cars,” explains Yves.

Same story with Bernard, who came to demonstrate for the first time in five years with his friend Franck. “ We’re sandwiched behind the cars and this is where it becomes dangerous, because it reduces our safety distances and our vision,” explains the man who rides from Créteil in Val-de- to in Seine-Saint-Denis every day with his motorbike.

Inter-queueing allows us to have more security, save time and have better traffic flow, so everyone is a winner. That the town hall agrees to restore the inter-file to 50 km/h!”

Politicians mobilized on the subject

A request which seems to have been heard. Last October 11 in The ParisianDavid Belliard, the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of the transformation of public space, transport, street and road codes, announced his support for “the authorization of inter-queues for both -wheels at 50 km/h. It presents no more (or if not less) danger than at 70 km/h,” he explained.

Three left-wing senators, Ian Brossat, Fabien Gay and Pierre Ouzouliasalso sent a letter to the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, to request the reestablishment of the inter-file as quickly as possible.

A legal appeal was also filed by the FFMC to maximize the chances of success. The coordinator of the federation of angry bikers of Paris, Jean-Marc Belotti promises to “fight” to reinstate the inter-file at 50 km/h.

Motorcyclists do not believe in a return to 70 km/h

Among bikers, the question of lane separation is central. But, the speed reduction on the ring road is also heavily criticized.“Useless”, “constraint” or “anything”are the qualifiers chosen by two-wheel users.

“It’s a decision, one more, unilateral by Anne Hidalgo which will impact people in the suburbs more than Parisians,” denounces Jean-Marc Belotti. In favor of the measure of Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Île-de- region, who proposes to install an anti-noise coating in order to limit road nuisances, the biker regrets the lack of response from the Paris town hall. “She (Anne Hidalgo) just wants to kick out the bikers and motorists from the capital.”

But when it was time to set off on the ring road and reach the Town Hall, a certain resignation had overtaken the bikers.“There is no chance” even admits one of them who already imagines himself abandoning his favorite object, finding “no longer the pleasure of riding”.
