Notice to those who are curious, this is a first. The terrariophile and entomological association of Bois-d’Arcy (ATEBA), created less than a year ago, is offering its first insect purseSunday October 27, at the village hall of the Domaine de La Tremblaye, in Bois-d’Arcy (Yvelines).

“This is an extremely rare event in Île-de-France. Amateur and professional breeders will come from all over France, but also from Belgium, to present their insects and also sell. There will be invertebrates, but also woodlice, arachnids…”

Some species are highly sought after

Depending on the species, prices vary. “It costs between €10 and €30 for a mantis. Some species are very sought after and prestigious. The price of a live insect can reach 160 €», explains François Houte, himself an amateur breeder of mantises and a few centipedes. “I love the diversity, their color attracts me,” continues this resident of Bois-d’Arcy for twelve years.

“We want to interact with amateurs,” also underlines the president of ATEBA. The aim of our association is to promote the place of the insect in society, its role. We must stop being afraid of them and killing them, because they are useful. We have a educational role . We also work in primary schools. »

Of the experts will be present. Among them, the YouTuber Léna “Scarabête”. She will host a lecture on entomology at 2 p.m. If attendance at the insect fair is positive, the organizers will consider a new edition in 2025.
