Senegal: the army mobilized to support populations in flooded areas | APAnews

A mobilization of the armed forces is underway in Senegal to respond to the urgent health needs of disaster victims in flooded areas.

The Senegalese Armed Forces have deployed a mobile hospital in Bakel, in the east of the country, to support populations affected by the floods, according to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (Dirpa). For several days, this region has suffered serious flooding due to flooding of the Senegal River.

Medical teams are traveling to the most affected areas to provide emergency and primary health care. Dirpa also announced that a second mobile hospital will be deployed tomorrow in Orkadiéré, in the Matam region, in the northeast of the country.

Friday, October 18, the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) published an alert on significant flooding on the river, warning of the risk of flooding for populations living along its banks.

In this context, the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye, flew over the affected areas and met with local authorities, emphasizing the need for a rapid and coordinated response to this crisis.
