Indre-et-: a first STD2A class from the Choiseul high school wins the 2024 Samuel Paty prize

It was their history and geography teacher Stéphane Genêt who registered them. The students, then in first grade STD2A at Choiseul high school, won first place in the Samuel Paty prize, in the high school category. Their creation, a fashion show around the theme of secularism, is rewarded this Saturday, October 19 at the Sorbonne. The prize is awarded to them in the presence of the Minister of National Education Anne Genetet.

A fashion show to talk about secularism

Enrolled in Science and Technology of Design and Applied Arts, these high school students chose to present “a creation that resembles us“, namely a fashion show. Outside of class hours, the thirty students organized themselves to create seven outfits, which they then paraded during a show that they filmed and post on their social networks A major undertaking for these students who had to launch an online fundraiser to be able to obtain the fabric and materials to make the outfits. They came to the board, took a marker and called each other “so, where are we in terms of creation, is the press release ready?” I was observing this and it was quite fascinating. There are students who have revealed themselves. Besides, I told them “you have to be a project director”“, recalls Stéphane Genêt, their history and geography teacher.

Several weeks of work from which everyone leaves with good memories and the feeling of having accomplished “something important and nice all together“. To hear them, one might believe that the context of the competition, the tribute to Samuel Paty, was eclipsed by the creative impulse. But no, Lana was precisely the guarantor of this common thread, she was responsible for avoid off-topic in creations “it’s a complicated concept to understand and reinterpreting it, in this show, was tricky. You shouldn’t get lost“, explains the high school student. “It’s a heavy, difficult tribute for a class,” agrees Samuel, who was a model at the show, “but I think we did well. We’re glad we did it.

A challenge that Gabrielle believes she took on with her comrades.”at the beginning, we were really focused on religious iconographies. Then we said to ourselves that it was more than that, secularism. It’s something that allows everyone to live together and respect each other in the end, and it’s something that we don’t necessarily see when we think of secularism..”

The parade can be viewed ici as well as a explanation of each outfit.
