AgriJura sounds the alarm on farm finances

The finances of Jura farms are not in good shape. AgriJura is sounding the alarm on Friday on the occasion of the opening of the Jura Fair. According to the umbrella organization, successive crises threaten entities “even though they are considered solid and well maintained”. One in five farms in the region showed negative overall net cash flow at the end of 2022.

AgriJura points out that trustees and farmers are reporting a “worrying worsening” of the situation this fall. The heavy rains notably had a significant negative impact on the quantities and quality of crops. Furthermore, many Jura farms have to face financial losses due to blue tongue disease.

Twelve proposals

Faced with the seriousness of the situation, AgriJura is proposing 12 urgent measures to overcome the current financial impasses of Jura farms. The umbrella organization requests in particular to facilitate interest-free loans, to extend the sequestration zone for blue tongue disease to the entire national territory, to support farms in great difficulty in their management or even to provide cantonal support for livestock markets and the animal disease fund. /comm-alr
