the long pumping of the A47 has started, no reopening date

The A47 disappeared under the waves this Thursday.

The bad weather caused the Gier to flood, and the highway was swallowed up, as well as many vehicles abandoned by their owners.

The axis which connects to Saint-Etienne has still not reopened this Friday, on the portion between the Ternay node and the 15 Saint-Chamond Seytilec interchange. And the authorities are careful not to communicate a possible date and time of reopening as the construction site is so complicated.

Since Thursday, equipment has been transported to pump water under the Givors hopper. If pumping has started, the Rhône prefecture announces an operation “very long”in particular because of the appearance of the water, muddy and filled with waste.

Once the water has been pumped, it will then be necessary to evacuate the vehicle wrecks, then clean the road, check that the structures (hoppers, bridges) have not suffered from the flood… It is only at this moment -there that the A47 will be able to accommodate traffic again.

In the meantime, motorists are asked to use the A89 or the A72. On the side, the axis was able to partially reopen to light vehicles.
