Weather vigilance: the City of takes stock, takes stock of the state of parks and transport

The Alpes-Maritimes department went into yellow alert for “rain-flood” and “thunderstorms” this Friday from 6 a.m.. He’s staying on orange alert for the risk of flooding on the upstream and the middle Var. In the metropolis, the municipal command post and the coordination post remain active until the last problems are resolved, particularly on the roads.

“Given the recurring Mediterranean episodes and the waterlogging linked to the recent rains, I requested yesterday a total mobilization of the teams, particularly in the middle and upper countries, whose municipalities had activated their command post”, comments Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice and president of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis.

What about waterways?

The Vésubie and the Boréon offer a slight declinewhile the Tinée was still growing a little this Friday morning. La Cagne and Malvan showed a decline.

Christian Estrosi greeted “commitment and work” of all the teams from the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. “They, once again, were mobilized all night to serve the populations by monitoring the flooding of rivers and streams, quickly ensuring the reopening of roads where damage was noted.” They also welcomed 64 people without stable homes at the Leyrit gymnasium.

What remains to be done?

According to the president of the Metropolis, work continues this morning, including inspection of schools, parks and gardens, cemeteries. “The recurrence of these events confronts us with the obvious: the new climate norm is here: increasingly hot summers, increasingly severe storms. It is irreversible. Our role, at the Metropolis, is It’s about admitting it and anticipating it. We won’t prevent storms, but we can prepare for them. There is no climate impasse, only resignation.“, says Christian Estrosi.

Parks, gardens and cemeteries inspected

The City and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis focused, this Friday morning, on inspecting schools and playgrounds in order to verify the absence of danger.

The Château hill was the subject of particular vigilance from 6 a.m., in order to ensure opening to the public as soon as possible.

– The parks and gardens will gradually reopen by the end of this Friday morning, according to the diagnosis established by the gardeners on a case-by-case basis.

– The beaches and the coastal path will gradually reopen, as will the cemeteries.

– Garbage collection will resume this evening throughout the Metropolis.

Public transport: no interruption except in certain valleys

On the coast, buses and trams suffered no interruption. The Lignes d’Azur transport network remains at a standstill in the Tinée and Vésubie valleys and the Estéron valley. As a precaution, pending the end of the road inspection, school transport in the Tinée and Vésubie sectors is not provided this morning.

Evacuated people will return to their homes depending on the recession.

Since Thursday 5 p.m., the Leyrit hall, in Nice, had been armed to shelter the public without a stable home. 64 people were welcomed including 4 children. In Isola, Utelle, Roquebillière and Saint-Martin-Vésubie, homes located near watercourses had been made safe as a precautionary measure. Reintegration could be considered when the watercourses recede.
