Event at the Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich: a titan Arum, the largest flower in the world, is about to bloom. While it is not possible to accurately predict when the bloom will be complete, the university expects it to be during Ascension weekend or at the latest by next Sunday, explains establishment in a press release published on Wednesday.

The last time such a specimen bloomed in Zurich was in 2019. This flower has the particularity of only opening for exactly 48 hours. It is possible to follow the current state of flowering on the Botanical Garden website. But the university explains that “with more than a meter [ndlr: elle avait atteint le 1,10 m mercredi] and her pronounced smell of carrion, she is a real sight”. She therefore invites anyone interested to come and discover the Arum titan with their own eyes.

From its Latin name Amorphophallus titanum, the titan arum – also known as “titan phallus” – is a flower native to West Sumatra, reveals the University of Zurich. It can reach two to three meters in height.
