Demonstration in : the prosecution opens an investigation

The public prosecutor’s office decided to open an investigation for “threats with orders and conditions made against the municipal administration of ” during this demonstration where threats, insults and verbal violence were reported. The federal judicial police of Namur took action this Wednesday, beginning the hearings of several witnesses, including Pierre-Yves Dermagne and Julien Defaux. “My audition lasted 2h30. It creates a certain emotion. We’re still in shock, and having to plunge myself back into that, it wasn’t easy, confides the liberal. I was heard in my own name but also with my position as acting mayor because there were agents who were shocked and there was an attack on public administration.”

Neither delighted nor annoyed by the involvement of the prosecution, Julien Defaux declared that the events should not be minimized. “I am obviously for the right to demonstrate. I didn’t do anything to stop it. But there were still some slip-ups and we didn’t expect them.” Other witness hearings are planned in the coming days.


A march organized this weekend

The opening of this investigation could well shape the political climate in Rochefort, by clarifying the consequences of this demonstration. In the meantime, the @venir Citoyen group does not intend to appease its ardor. Indeed, a protest march was approved by Julien Defaux, the acting mayor, and will take place this weekend, but under increased vigilance by the police forces in order to avoid any excess.
