He is a figure from Bagnoles (Orne), very involved in local life, who has just passed away.

Born March 22, 1935 in Bagnoles-de-l’Orne, Christian Couette lived a large part of his life in Tessé-La-Madeleinebecome Bagnoles-Château during the merger in 2000.

“He was a roofer, then a plumber-heating engineer, as an employee then a boss, before retiring in 1995,” says Jean-François, one of his children. He was a municipal councilor in Tessé-la-Madeleine for two terms.

It was in 1958 that he met Maryvonne, originally from Isle-Adam in Val-d’OIse.

Their marriage took place before his departure to Algeria where he was mobilized for around thirty months.

From this union three children were born: Sylvaine (1961), Jean-François (1964) and Christophe (1968); then three grandchildren (Morgan, Max and Manon), and Sacha, their great-grandson.

In the 1980s, the couple headed the famous majorettes of Tessé-la-Madeleine.

Very invested

Alongside his profession, Christian Couette was very involved in community life.

Treasurer of Tessé festival committee for 20 to 25 years, he was also a great sportsman. “He started playing football around the age of 15 at the Bagnoles / Tessé Sports Union, which then merged with La Ferté-Macé to form the JFB where he was still manager,” says his son Jean-François. He was also a member of the Ornais Olympic Games Committee.

A commitment which in 2018 earned him the Youth and Sport silver medal.

Turning towards others, Christian Couette was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years, and he was heavily involved as president of the Departmental Firefighters Museum, present in Bagnoles from 1989 to 2014.

While his wife Maryvonne died on June 20, at the age of 91, Christian Couette has also just passed away at the age of 89.

“Thursday evening, October 10, he felt unwell when he went to bed and he was transported by the firefighters to La Ferté-Macé hospital where he died on Friday morning,” confides Jean-François.

Christian Couette is resting at the La Chapelle-d’Andaine funeral home and his funeral will take place this Friday, October 18, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sainte-Madeleine church in Bagnoles-Château.
