SENEGAL-EDUCATION / Ziguinchor: AEMO offers school kits to 240 children in difficult situations – Senegalese press agency

Ziguinchor, Oct 16 (APS) – The branch of Open Educational Action (AEMO) offered, on Wednesday, school kits worth more than three million CFA francs to 240 children in danger or in conflict with the law, in order to allow them to start the school year in better conditions, noted the APS.

The school kits were handed over to the beneficiaries during a ceremony organized by AEMO in the presence of the deputy prefect of Ziguinchor, Mamadou Lamine Diop.

“This third school kit delivery ceremony is organized by the AEMO Ziguinchor coordination to allow the children we have been caring for for years to have a good start to the school year,” explained the regional coordinator of AEMO Ziguinchor, Véronique Sambou Dabo.

These children, she continued, “being from very vulnerable groups, it was important at the start of the school year to be able to offer them school kits which could allow them to go to school with all the necessary ease and not to feel frustrated”.

“This will allow these children to have good academic performance and fight against school dropout,” added Véronique Sambou Dabo, stressing that “the statistics concerning children in conflict with the law are in decline in Ziguinchor”.

“There is a decline in this category of children in Ziguinchor,” she rejoiced, refraining from giving figures.

This ceremony “allowed AEMO to give meaning to its mission of protecting vulnerable groups and preserving the right to education,” welcomed the deputy prefect of Ziguinchor, Mamadou Lamine Diop.

According to him, “this provision of school kits aims to relieve families experiencing socio-economic difficulties, whose children followed by AEMO will today be motivated and encouraged to perform well during the start of the school year”.
