Geneva: At Migros, bag “theft” is very expensive

If he does not comment on particular cases, the spokesperson for Migros Geneva, Alessandro Sofia, indicates that “the fee of 200 fr. are set by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and are not the responsibility of our cooperative. He adds that “the intention to steal is subjective and difficult to identify. That said, whether the act is intentional or not, the person, according to the law, is required to repair the harm caused.”

Spokesperson for Switzerland, Tristan Cerf adds: “The fine punishes theft, regardless of the amount of the sum. 99.9% of customers are honest and pay for their purchases. Those who fail to do so must expect consequences. Migros does not pay for theft.”
