A 65-year-old woman was fatally struck by a driver who then fled, leaving her victim to die in the middle of a boulevard, Wednesday morning, in the Laval-des-Rapides district, in Laval.
The event occurred a little after 6 a.m., at the corner of Boulevard de la Concorde and 15th Street, in the middle of a residential area.
Several citizens contacted 911 to report a person lying in the middle of the traffic lanes on Boulevard de la Concorde.
When emergency services arrived, they began resuscitation maneuvers to the hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead.
The police officers dispatched to the scene quickly realized that the victim had been hit by a driver who had fled after the impact.
The information was relayed to surrounding police forces, asking them to keep an eye out.
The damaged vehicle believed to be involved in the hit-and-run was located a little later in the morning, in the Côte-des-Neiges district of Montreal.
Its driver was to be met by Laval police investigators during the day on Wednesday and could face a charge of hit-and-run causing death.
