This is a first in the Pays de Bray. THE Saturday October 19 and Sunday October 20 2024, the public will be able to discover or rediscover the history of Gournay-en-Bray (Seine-Maritime) in a new way. The city will be scrutinized for a weekend by 14 academics specialists in History and came from Normandie, Picardy, and well beyond.

The opportunity to better know and understand the past of Gournay both at the level economicreligious, artistic or its architecture.

A poorly known story

An event organized at the initiative of the Historical Society of the Pays de Bray (SHPB) and Sébastien Lefèvre, head of archaeological operations in . These historians and archaeologists will concretely take stock of knowledge about the city in the Middle Ages and its immediate environment.

Many local historians have produced articles on these topics. But for Anthony Petit, president of the SHPB “This story is little known to the Brayons and deserves to be highlighted”.

New methods, notably a 3D scan and new areas of research now make it possible to complete data on the history of the city.

Saint-Hildevert Church in 3 D

So on Saturday October 19, after having traveled through this town in the Pays de Bray, discovering its medieval remains of this town, certainly discreet but very real, it is at the Saint-Hildevert church that the public will be able to learn more on the architectural particularities of the building, in particular thanks to a 3D scan which was carried out this summer and the first results of which will be presented.

Links between the Orient and the Pays de Bray

Light will also be shed on the relics of the True Cross brought back from the crusade and the links of the Pays de Bray with theOrient.

From 2 p.m., Saturday afternoon will take place in the Gournay village hall, the restitution of the research of historians and archaeologists on the fortifications of the Epte, the ceramic de Gournay, the town’s plot, the canons of the Hôtel-Dieu chapter and the clumsiness.

The Norman historian Jacques Le Maho will conclude the day on the future of historical and archaeological research in Gournay.

The next day, Sunday October 20, the group will explore the medieval environment of the stronghold: Saint-Germer-de-Fly et Gerberoy. Sunday visits are by reservation.
