While the accommodation is starting to run out in Sables-d’Olonne three weeks before the start of the Vendée Globe and that those which are still available display prices often very higha Sablaise school offers a good plan for owners of vans or from converted vans or even small motorhomes (less than 6.50 m).

Indeed, the Saint-Nicolas school located in the heart of La Chaume, a stone’s throw from the quayoffers for rental six places de parking.

A prime location to visit the village during the holidays or cheer the skippers as they pass through the channel on the day of departure.

These six places are available for rental during the All Saints’ Day holidays (from October 19 to November 3) and the weekend of the start of the race from November 8 to 11.

Funds needed for school

An idea from the Ogec (Catholic Education Management Organization) of the school and the parents of the students. ” We let’s already rent these parking spaces in the summervia word of mouth, to neighbors of the school who are looking to easily park their cars because the area is very popular in the summer. Our parking lot is closed and secure,” says Soliane Guineveu, treasurer of Ogec.

Any means is good to raise funds to support our school, to maintain it and to organize activities for the students.

So, the school regularly rents its canteen and motor skills room for meetings, family celebrations, etc.

Be as close as possible to the event

Solène Vilain, director of the school, explains: “Some people were able to comment on our initiative. But people don’t understand that schools need funds. They don’t realize the costs we have to bear…”

It is therefore natural that, in a context of shortage and high prices of accommodationOgec wanted to make its parking space available to vans and small motorhomes.

“Not everyone can afford to rent accommodation for 400 euros per night to watch the start of the Vendée Globe. We are going to allow people to access the event more easily by being very close to the platform,” underlines Soliane Guineveu who knows what she is talking about since she manages a concierge service.

All amenities nearby

On the practical side, rental is therefore possible for two or three nights at the rate of 100 euros for two nights and 130 euros for three nights.

“The pitches have neither water nor electricity nor a drain point. The vehicle must be relatively autonomous but this is largely doable over two or three days,” explains Soliane Guineveu.

The school has all amenities nearby: bakeries, restaurants, supermarket, bars… Enough to spend a pleasant moment at the heart of the event!
