the two accused sentenced to life imprisonment

Two men tried in for the murders of a mother and her neighbor in 2021 in Haute- were sentenced on Tuesday October 15 to life in prison, with automatic security periods of 22 and 18 years respectively. The Assize Court found Abdelkader Belarbia, ex-spouse of the young woman, and his accomplice David Malioukov guilty of the murder of Cécilia Peroux, 33, as well as of a triple attempted homicide against the children of the victim, in Nexon (Haute-Vienne) in June 2021. Abdelkader Belarbia was, however, found solely guilty of the murder of Pierrick Berthier, 23, a friend and neighbor who came to protect Cécilia Peroux. David Maliukov was sentenced for “failure to assist a person in danger” for this part of the file.

The sentences handed down against the two accused, who have been appearing since October 7, are in accordance with the requisitions of the attorney general.

On the night of June 15 to 16, 2021, Abdelkader Belarbia went with his accomplice to the home of his ex-partner, who had just left him. After a surge of violence, a fire was then set deliberately, while the three children, aged five, eight and 13 at the time, were upstairs. They narrowly escaped death before the firefighters arrived, thanks to the responsiveness of the eldest daughter. The two accused blamed each other for the death of Cécilia Peroux, injured by three stab wounds, including a fatal one in the neck, and for the start of the fire. Pierrick Berthier was found dead, lying dead on the kitchen floor and Cécilia Peroux on top of him, on his back, arms and legs spread.

“They came, they killed, they left”

“They came, they killed, they left. Calmly. They have resumed the course of their lives”had asserted Attorney General Philippe Mélia in his requisitions. According to him, “David Malioukov facilitated the commission of the facts, by preventing Cécilia Peroux from intervening” when Abdelkader Belarbia suffered the sixteen stab wounds and caused the multiple bruises on Pierrick Berthier’s head. “He did nothing to prevent the murder” and participated “personally, voluntarily, actively in action”justified the magistrate.

David Maliukov was in a state of “astonishment” and taken from a “guilty cowardice”pleaded his lawyer Me Elvina Jeanjon. “That evening he followed Belarbia because he wanted to smoke cannabis. He didn’t want to enter the house but he can be manipulated (…) He didn’t think things were going to take this turn.” Abdelkader Belarbia’s defense regretted the latter’s silence at the hearing and recalled that he “formally contests” having killed his ex-partner and said “to be” senti en danger “facing the young neighbor who was then holding a weapon”. “If he sets the fire, it’s to remove the evidence of what happened. Is it to burn children? The answer is no. He never wanted (THE) kill”assured Me Julie Lehut in her pleading.
