3rd: charming Café des Musées | Gilles Pudlowski’s blog

Like a place belonging to the of old, this Café des Musées charms, at the corner of rue de Turenne and the picturesque, yet little-known, rue du Parc Royal. The revisited 1900 setting is chic with its inscriptions on the facade, its zinc counter with vine branches, its copper hooks, its mosaics on the floor. The menu does not disappoint, offering traditional bourgeois dishes executed with skill.

The chef, the discreetly smiling Arif Hossain, originally from Bangladesh, has been there for fifteen years. This beautiful, modest artisan has notably worked here with the Japanese chef Daisuke Ikichi, formerly of Joël Robuchon, Georges Blanc and Pages in the 16th and continues to serve the famous beef bourguignon in a casserole with his splendid apple purée, voted for by our friends at Figaroscope as “the best in Paris”.

Soft-boiled egg with chanterelles, tempura shrimp with spinach coulis with Hollandaise sauce, beautiful country terrine and pickles, fillet of sea bream with vegetables of the day, baked guinea fowl with beetroot and mashed potatoes also have staying power. For dessert, don’t miss the exquisite “shaiwase” caramel cream (known as “I am happy” in Japanese) which is a model of its kind, nor the fromage blanc mousse with crumbled gavottes and plum compote, the legacy of a gifted Japanese pastry chef who worked at “Neige d’Eté”.

And on the wine side, glasses from magnums like the fresh Marsanne from Cuilleron and the easy-drinking Morgon from Georges Descombes have a great effect.
