Michel Barnier will receive the deputies of the Republican Right on Wednesday, against a backdrop of tensions as the budget examination approaches

It is difficult to describe the strange, or at least unprecedented, atmosphere that reigns in the hemicycle at the start of the new legislature. Not only are the oppositions clearly in the majority, but the government’s supporters are in no hurry to be noticed. So the dynamic during questions to the government seems to be changing. Example this Tuesday, where the ministers questioned by the groups of the presidential coalition were particularly friendly towards elected officials – sometimes their group colleagues – who were not very enthusiastic about the government.

To a question from deputy Ensemble pour la République (EPR) Charles Rodwell on the issue of the Doliprane factory, the Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand did not go with the back of a spoon: “Thank you for your questioning and that of the deputies of your group, which, I know, ensures both the industrial sovereignty of the country and the attractiveness of our country and our capacity to finance factories and cutting-edge technologies tomorrow. And I know your personal commitment on the subject. »

Better yet, the budget minister, Laurent Saint-Martin, facing the start of MoDem Jean-Paul Mattei (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) on the finance bill: “I thank you for your question, which, obviously, following so much experience with the finance bill on your part, takes on its full relevance. » This type of exchange is not entirely new of course, but usually it is rather the government’s supporting deputies who brush the ministers’ grain in their question. A kind of upside down world.
