The fourth edition of Tower Trail 2024 had to take place Saturday October 19 in Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier (Ille-et-Vilaine).

“Hunters have priority”

Liffré-Cormier Triathlon has been at the initiative of this event since 2021. Emmanuel Gélu says:

We are in a period of hunter activity. Unavailability of the Haute-Sèvre forest does not allow us to organize the trail in Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier. Hunters have priority, because they pay for plots all year round. The other dates when the forest was free did not suit us, since it fell opposite other running events, so we preferred to cancel.

L’National Forestry Office (ONF) is the owner and manager of the national forest of Haute-Sève. : »When we receive a request for an event, we check the route, the dates and that there is not another event at the same time or an activity that prevents the event from taking place. In this case, the hunting calendar was already validated. The demonstration was requested on a hunting day. For people’s safety, we cannot authorize a demonstration at the same time,” explains Jeremy Laine, NFB technician in charge of the Saint-Aubin forest.

Impact on game

A hunt must take place in the Haute-Sève forest Saturday October 19. It is not organized by theACCA of Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier but by an association of hunters in the sector who pay a right to hunt in the national forest.

It is a hunting lease for a period of twelve years. It is renewed every three years. They will define a schedule. They are asked to carry out the hunting plan which is validated by the Ille-et-Vilaine hunters’ federation. At the same time, we are carrying out inventories to understand the impact of game, which is very important for the forest.

The klikego platform confirms the cancellation of the Trail de la tour which offered three routes: 18 km La Barbacane (short trail), 8 km L’Escarpe (nature race) and 28 km La 1488 (trail).
