Fruits and vegetables: Morocco maintains its position as Spain’s leading supplier

Morocco remains Spain’s leading supplier of fruits and vegetables. At the end of last July, Spanish imports of fruit and vegetables from the Kingdom reached, in value, 698 million euros, or 24% of the total, according to data from Spanish Customs. This figure continues the growth achieved in recent years, according to official Spanish data. Spanish imports from Morocco during the first seven months of the year increased by 10% year-on-year.

In total, Spanish imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from January to July 2024 amounted to 2.90 billion euros, or 10% more than in the same period of 2023, of which 68% of the total, or 1 .98 billion euros, from third countries and 927 million euros from the European Union (EU).

Far from Morocco, the main suppliers to the Spanish market, with imports of more than 100 million euros, are Peru (317 million euros, +12%), (298 million euros, +14% ), Portugal (218 million euros, +16%), Costa Rica (168 million euros, +13%), the Netherlands (143 million euros, -3%), Italy (125 million euros, +9%), Brazil (112 million euros, +19%) and New Zealand (105 million euros, +58%).
