142 electors of -Atlantique ask Senator Joël Guerriau to resign

One hundred and forty-two elected officials from -Atlantique, all major voters, signed the petition launched by socialist senator Philippe Grosvalet to request the resignation of senator Joël Guerriau (Horizons), suspected of having without his knowledge drugged the Modem deputy of the Guérande peninsula Sandrine Josso, with the aim of sexually assaulting her.

Refusal to resign

Placed under judicial supervision since the end of 2023, Joël Guerriau was immediately suspended from his party and his parliamentary group. And at the request of Gérard Larcher, LR president of the Senate, he no longer sits at the Palais du Luxembourg and no longer participates in the work, but he retains his mandate as senator.

Only the Constitutional Council has the possibility of pronouncing the disqualification of the elected official if the latter is criminally convicted. Highlighting the principle of exemplarity of parliamentarians, President Larcher asked, in vain, Senator Guerriau to resign while the latter announced his intention to return to the Senate, as he had confided to Ocean Press in April 2024.

“Detrimental to the defense of our territory”

Mr. Guerriau’s choice to maintain his position, at all costs, is not only regrettable for the image of the Upper House of our Parliament, but also detrimental for the defense of our territory. This simple withdrawal actually results in an under-representation of elected officials from our territory in the Senate: only four of the five senators from our Department sit there to represent the voice of our communities. deplore the petitioners.

They recall that the list led by Joël Guerriau during the last senatorial elections won 645 votes out of the 3,087 voters in the department, or 21% of voters. It is problematic on a democratic level that the diversity of our representation in the upper house no longer conforms to this vote and that our territory is no longer represented up to its demographic weight. they continue, calling on Joël Guerriau to resign without delay of his mandate.
