“It’s been almost two years since we made the request.” With these words, the parishioners of Chaumes-en-Brie (Seine-et-Marne) do not hide their joy at meeting the teams from the famous show The Lord’s Day. Indeed, theSaint-Pierre Saint-Paul churchmonument dating from the 13the century, was chosen by the production to be the scene of one of their next live shows.

« Sunday November 3, 2024our teams will be there to film the mass live and broadcast it on 2recaps Maïgwen Valleys, responsible for television liturgy on behalf of the public service. We make sure to respond favorably to the requests sent to us by the parishes. We have a lot of requests. This is why the parish of Chaumes waited so long,” she confesses.

More than 200 people expected

Since the end of September, the team of directors has been carrying out the final scouting to determine where to place the six cameras necessary for the production of the live broadcast, the logistics corner, the control room or even choose the arrangement of the faithful on the big day. An operation which is taking place under the eyes of parishioners who arrange and move certain furniture in the church. “We moved a Virgin to highlight it in the chorus, confides Michel Quais, one of the parishioners. The choir bench will also be reoriented for live broadcasting needs.”

It must be said that the next November 3the crowds in the building will be exceptional. In addition to the 200 faithful expected on site, around thirty people from the production team will be present on site. “Some will be in the four control trucks which will be parked in the adjacent streets,” says Maïgwen Valleys. Director of photography and camera director scrutinized the church to create the most beautiful shots on the day of the live broadcast, which will last 52 minutes. Rehearsals will be organized in the coming days and a dry mass will be celebrated the day before, as a spinning event.

800,000 spectators

“This will be an opportunity for us to reduce the impact of ‘unforeseen events’, but also to make the final adjustments to sound and light,” says the liturgy manager. For us it will also be a matter of filming a few shots which will be integrated into the production the next day. We will do everything to allow nearly 800,000 people joined us through this live broadcast ».

The oldest PAF show

Every Sunday since October 9, 1949, the mass has been broadcast by the French public television service, making the program the oldest still broadcast in the French audiovisual landscape (PAF). “Generations of Christians, and more than 600,000 viewers currently, experience the celebration, nourished by the word of God, prayer and song. They thus discover the different faces of our local communities and marvel at the breath that animates them,” summarizes Thierry Hubert, the producer of Jour du Seigneur.
On November 12, 2023, the production teams provided a live broadcast from the church of Bussy-Saint-Georges.

On the parish side, we are waiting for this great day with great impatience. “It will be the radiance of the church, breathe Francis Deniset, one of them. A program like this can allow us to bring in new parishioners.” Who knows? After all, the ways of the Lord are inscrutable.

The show The Lord’s Day will be performed live on Sunday November 3 in the church of Chaumes-en-Brie. It will be broadcast at the same time on France 2from 11 a.m.
