Up to 50 mm of rain in certain areas of Quebec

Residents of the eastern part of the province will need to keep their umbrellas ready if they wish to go out in the evening on Monday, since up to 50 millimeters of rain are expected in certain areas.

Environment Canada issued torrential rain warnings in the afternoon for seven areas of the province which should remain in effect until Tuesday morning.

“Rain of 30 to 50 mm is expected in Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie by Tuesday morning,” informed the government agency via its X account. “Quantities could exceed 50 mm.”

The areas affected by heavy rain include Matane, Chandler, Mont-Joli, Percé, Gaspé and Rimouski.

Storm surge warnings are also in effect in two coastal regions, Percé and Gaspé.

“Higher than normal water levels and large waves near the coast are expected late this evening and early tonight,” jointly warned the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Meteorological Service of Canada region of the Quebec on the Environment Canada website. “Coastal flooding is possible along the coastline. Coastal erosion is possible in risk areas.”

And snow

But it’s not just rain that will hit Quebec. Snow is also expected on the North Shore and in the Laurentians.

Between 5 and 10 centimeters of snow will fall in the Manicouagan sector and the Laurentides wildlife reserve.

“If you don’t have your winter tires, perhaps avoid these areas,” recommended weather journalist Brigitte Bédard on LCN.

Temperatures will nevertheless rise as the week progresses.

The low pressure system should be a thing of the past as of Wednesday and the mercury could exceed the 10 degrees Celsius mark in Montreal and Quebec during the last days of the week.
