Bad weather at Marrakech airport: ONDA reassures travelers

The city of Marrakech and its surroundings experienced unprecedented rainfall this Sunday, October 13, 2024. Within fifteen minutes, the city received torrential rain of approximately 25 mm, causing multiple floods at various strategic points in the city.

This episode of torrential rainexceeding the maximum capacity of drainage systems of the rainwatercaused at the level ofMarrakech-Menara airport the damage to some pipes, causing more or less severe infiltration in certain areas of the terminal. Airport infrastructure and operations were affected without major impact on activity. These bad climatic conditions also led to the diversion of some vols on arrival.

As soon as the alerts are launched by the national meteorology department, theTHEN set up a crisis unit which mobilized the teams and deployed the necessary measures. The Office wishes to reassure passengers, airlines and its partners that the airport and aeronautical installations of theMarrakech airport are operational and that the flow of the air traffic operates normally for both departing and arriving flights.
