This week, seven defendants will take the stand to speak about the case. No less than half of the 51 co-defendants have already testified before the start of this seventh week of trial.
Everyone disputes the facts. This seventh week of trial begins this Monday, October 14. On the program, seven co-defendants will speak to talk about their visits to the Pelicot home in Mazan. All the defendants who will take the stand this week disputed the facts at the opening of the trial.
As a reminder, under the control of Dominique Pelicot, nearly a hundred men went to his home in order to have sex with his wife Gisèle, who was under drugs. For more than ten years, she suffered numerous rapes aggravated by her husband who recruited men on social networks.
This historic trial also shows the dimension of the profiles of “rapists”. They are of all ages, all origins and come from all social backgrounds. They are “everyman”, a neighbor, a father, a friend, a colleague.
Dominique D.
Dominique D., originally from Pontet (Vaucluse), is 45 years old. He is married and the father of a son. A former soldier converted into a truck driver, he is said to have visited the Pelicot home no less than six times.
He met Dominique Pelicot at the supermarket who introduced him to his wife as a friend with whom he was cycling. The same evening they met, they both allegedly raped Gisèle Pelicot at their marital home. The forty-year-old then visited the site five times between 2015 and 2020.
Dominique D. would have been fully aware of Gisèle Pelicot’s condition at the time of the events. He is suspected of knowing, at the time of the events, that she was drugged in order to be raped. The investigators concluded that “The fact that the victim was completely submissive and reduced to a sexual object contributed to her arousal.”
Ahmed T.
Ahmed T. is a 54-year-old plumber. Married to his childhood sweetheart, he is also the father of three children. Passionate about boxing, he is very involved in his sports club.
On the Coco.fr site, he allegedly spoke with Dominique Pelicot before going to Mazan on the night of June 4 to 5, 2019. His goal was to brighten up his sex life which he described as “unsatisfactory and a source of frustration sexual”. The septuagenarian would have been tied hands and feet, still asleep.
Upon observing Gisèle Pelicot’s condition, the fifty-year-old would have admitted to having asked questions before thinking “of having obtained her consent through her husband”. According to the visual elements collected during the investigation, it appears that the man reacted by displaying a broad smile following the acts attributed to him.
Mohammed R.
Mohammed R. retired, 70 years old. Suffering from cancer, he was not present for the entire trial due to hospitalization. Father of seven children, he has already been convicted of raping his own daughter in 2017. Furthermore, the man considered that this conviction was a set-up by his daughter and her mother. He also said he was the victim of a miscarriage of justice.
As for Gisèle Pelicot, he met her husband on the Internet. During one night in May 2019, he allegedly stayed at the marital home for no less than five hours, while he allegedly touched and raped the woman’s inert body.
Mohammed R. reportedly said he felt like an actor at the time of the incident. After initially denying them, he then declared himself as much a victim as Gisèle Pelicot in the affair.
Cyril B.
Cyril B, 39-year-old truck driver. Described as “respectful and gentle” by his partner, the man allegedly claimed to have already practiced libertinism.
For his visit to Mazan, he would have described the evening to investigators as an “unhealthy” and “dark” evening. However, on the videos of his stay with the Pelicots, the man would have had relations with Gisèle Pelicot before abruptly leaving when the latter started to move in her sleep. He reportedly told investigators that he “had no pleasure.”
He too would have said he was just as much a victim as Gisèle Pelicot. Furthermore, he would have felt that their situation was similar, being both duped by the same person.
Redouane A.
Redouane A, unemployed and aged 40, is well known to the courts. He has already been convicted and his criminal record contains no less than 19 mentions including domestic violence, theft and aggravated violence or even death threats against a person holding public authority.
He allegedly went to the Pelicot home twice. He allegedly tried to extort Dominique Pelicot by threatening to buy his silence while asking him to give him the drug that the Mazanais would have used to put his wife to sleep.
During the broadcast of the video of his visit to Mazan during the investigation, Redouane A. would have been more shocked by the name of the file entitled “well raped” rather than by his actions which he would have described as an “act natural”.
According to the file, the psychologist expert as well as the psychiatric expertise determined that Redouane A would have “weak intellectual skills” but also that he would seem “incapable of conforming to laws and social norms”.
Mahdi B.
Mahdi B. is 36 years old and is a transport employee. A fan of libertinism, he would have responded to the opportunity offered to him by Dominique Pelicot on the Coco dating site.
He reportedly explained that he was not bothered by the proposed scenario. In the videos of his visit in October 2018, he received oral sex while Dominique Pelicot held his wife’s head. The 36-year-old man reportedly stayed at the marital home for no less than three hours. He would have liked to leave the accommodation, but without actually doing so.
Cyprien C.
Cyprien C. is a 43-year-old former truck driver. Father of one child and unemployed at the time of the events, Cyprien C. grew up in a home and foster family where violence was his daily life. As an adult, he suffered from alcohol addiction. The psychologist expert would have described him as a “vulnerable and easily influenced man”.
In 2017, he allegedly went to the Pelicot home where he realized that something was wrong. However, the man would have had sexual relations with Gisèle Pelicot. When viewing the videos kept by Dominique Pelicot, he said he was shocked and recognized that the victim did not seem to consent.
