The Departmental Youth Council is renewed for two years

The Departmental Youth Council is preparing to elect its 111 new members, with nearly 30,000 middle school students called to vote until October 18, 2024.

This election marks the installation of the second Assembly of the Departmental Youth Council for the period 2024-2025, a strong moment in the life of this body.

Françoise Laurent-Perrigot, president of the Gard Departmental Council, underlined the importance of education and youth in this mandate: “These elections are the culmination of great collective work carried out over the last two years, and the start of such a promising adventure. We can’t wait to see these young people at work, who will make the voice of all Gard schoolchildren heard.”

To encourage 5th and 4th grade middle school students to participate, Departmental Council agents led an information campaign for a month, exposing the role and missions of the Departmental Youth Council (CDJ). Around 7,000 students in 23 middle schools were directly made aware, while other establishments received communication tools.

At the end of the elections, the Assembly will be made up of 111 members: 46 youth departmental advisors, 12 departmental delegates and 53 deputies, representing the 46 cantons of the department. The body will ensure parity between boys and girls and include 5th and 4th grade students.
Elected officials will have the opportunity to make their voices heard, express their expectations and propose concrete actions of general interest. Four commissions will be created, focusing on quality of life, sustainable development, well-being and health, as well as a theme chosen by the young people themselves.
