One of the many warts that disfigure the town center of Beaumont-sur-Oise (Val-d’Oise) should disappear soon.
Bordered by Victor-Hugo, Henri-Sadier streets and the old commerce center, the Gabriel-Péri block will be demolished and then rebuilt.
It will make way for a new R+2 building with forty housing units – more than 50% of which are social – and shops on the ground floor.
Thursday October 3, 2024, the Beaumont municipal council launched the first stage of this project by approving the launch of an expropriation procedure and a public inquiry.
Public inquiry
With an area of 1,405 m2the scope of the operation is made up of seven plots, one of which has already been acquired by the Île-de-France Public Land Establishment (Epfif). The other six remain to be purchased and will be subject to negotiations with the owners.
Small detail: the Gabriel-Péri island is built on an old vaulted cellar. This heritage element will be preserved “as much as possible”, but should complicate the future demolition site.
For the City of Beaumont-sur-Oise, this operation aims to breathe new life into the city center and “stop its deterioration”.
On the side of the municipal opposition, Thierry Leulier and David Venderbecq demanded clarification on parking and expressed their concerns about the increase in traffic caused by the addition of these new residents.
“The traffic doesn’t worry me, we’ll see how to get the vehicles in via rue Victor-Hugo,” replied Jean-Michel Aparicio, the mayor (Dvg) of Beaumont-sur-Oise. We have always had a problem with parking, but we also need to revitalize our downtown. We are going to review all of this with Epfif. »
Space and bike plan
Opposed to this project, Xavier Renou, minority municipal councilor (Dvg), regretted a new “densification and concretization” of the municipality.
“We need space and a cycling plan, you promised it, but it’s forgotten,” complains the elected official. We’re going to pile people in and hope for a miracle to revive this city. »
For the mayor, it is above all a question of eliminating a building in decay and located in the city center: “We need housing. There, we will demolish to rebuild a clean and dignified building. »
