Not a moment goes by without social media algorithms feeding us “hijab tutorials” from “modesty” ambassadors, or the latest confessions of an influencer as popular as Maeva Ghennam, showing off her efforts to wear the veil on Fridays since that she decided, I quote, “to stop fornication” and to force “whoever wants her to marry her before God”. As such, it is today possible to offer one’s body to the creativity of a surgeon whose gesture owes more to cubism than to aesthetics and to cover one’s work with sudden modesty. Which would just be funny if it wasn’t a sign that the trend is indeed towards wearing the veil.
