The 10 most anticipated Christmas markets in Belgium

Winter Fun in Brussels

What would the Brussels end-of-year celebrations be without their essential Winter Wonders? The event returns for a 24th edition from November 29, 2024 to January 5, 2025. This year’s program has not yet been revealed, you will have to wait until November to find out more. Will the afterski at Place de Brouckère be back? What to expect regarding entertainment for children? What will be new? Only a few more weeks to wait before we have the answers to all these questions.

Louvain-la-Neige to Louvain-la-Neuve

Louvain-la-Neige is making its comeback from November 29 to December 21, 2024 on the Grand-Place and Place de l’Université de Louvain-la-Neuve. Around a hundred exhibitors are expected spread across 80 wooden chalets. More precisely, the Grand-Place will host around thirty chalets selling crafts and local products with a tasting of mulled wine, crisps, gingerbread, etc. Pop-up chalets will also be installed where the artisans will be present on site for a very short period (approximately two to four days).

The timetables for Louvain-la-Neige are already known. The event will be open Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Christmas village of Liège

The Liège Christmas village has existed for 36 years. This is the oldest Christmas market in our country. Around 1.5 million visitors from Belgium and Europe come to admire it and discover the 150 chalets dedicated to gifts and gastronomy. One of the most popular activities is the Cathedral Ice Rink. The Liège Christmas village is part of an ecological approach. Single-use plastic tableware is banned in favor of reusable or compostable tableware, while the remaining waste is sorted and sent to treatment or recovery channels. The entire program will be revealed during the month of October, but we already know the dates of the festivities: from November 29, 2024 to January 4, 2025.

The Antwerp Christmas market

The European Best Destinations platform describes the Antwerp Christmas market as “one of the best Christmas markets in Belgium”. It will be held from December 6, 2024 to January 5, 2025 in the four corners of the city including the Place de l’Opéra, the Grand-Place… In addition to the Christmas market, the ice rink with winter bar and the JOE Christmas House are also their return. The traditional Christmas trees, the nativity scene and the richly decorated town center are also worth seeing. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, time for the end-of-year fireworks.

The Durbuy Christmas market

The Christmas market of “the smallest city in the world” will take place from November 22, 2024 to January 5, 2025. It is held on the Place aux Foires, the main square of the city and in the King Baudouin Park located next to it. You will also have the opportunity to taste local products, and who knows, find Christmas gifts for your loved ones.

The Bruges Christmas market

We return to Flanders with the Bruges Christmas market. The event is actually divided into two markets. The first, located on the Grand-Place, will have a traditional atmosphere, while the second on Place Simon Stevin will highlight artisanal products from short circuits. The atmosphere promises to be cozy with the installation of small hamlets filled with trinkets that you can discover between November 22, 2024 and January 5, 2025. Also on the program: streets dressed like gingerbread houses with garlands lights that are reflected in the channels for even more magic.
