Royal speech highlights growing maturity of Moroccan diplomacy

In his speech delivered this Friday, October 11 in Rabat, to Parliament on the occasion of the opening of the first session of the 4th legislative year of the 11th Legislature, King Mohammed VI greeted the friendly countries which support the Moroccanness of Sahara, the first national cause of all Moroccans.

Accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid, King Mohammed VI saluted the national colors to the sound of the national anthem, before reviewing a detachment of the Royal Guard which paid the honors.

Proud of a long journey of struggle, the sovereign believes that today, “Praise God, the Truth, which always ends up supplanting all other considerations, has been revealed brilliantly because just Causes inevitably triumph.”.

For an in-depth reading, Hespress FR approached Moulay Hicham Mouatadid, political scientist, author and researcher in public and international political studies, who believes that “The speech delivered by King Mohammed VI at the opening of the parliamentary session constitutes a major strategic step for Morocco, particularly with regard to the crucial issue of the Sahara. The King, by highlighting recent diplomatic victories, notably ’s unwavering support for the Moroccan character of the Sahara, marks a significant break with a reactive approach. He now calls for the adoption of a proactive strategy, based on determination and initiative, thus illustrating the growing maturity of Moroccan diplomacy”.

This new orientation underlines Morocco’s desire to position itself firmly on the international scene. “By integrating solid historical and legal arguments, Moroccan diplomacy asserts itself forcefully, even in a complex global context. The growth of this proactive strategy is reinforced by a growing recognition of Moroccan legitimacy in the Sahara, not only by influential countries like France and the United States, but also by a multitude of Arab, African and European nations.”, he said.

This support, which transcends simple diplomatic speeches, is manifested through concrete initiatives, such as the opening of consulates in Laâyoune and Dakhla. These actions solidify Morocco’s position as a key player on the African continent and demonstrate the robustness of its network of international partnerships.

Thus, the King also highlights the dynamics of socio-economic development in the southern provinces, integrated coherently into the national framework. For Hicham Mouatadid, “This development model, supported by strategic projects such as the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline and other continental initiatives, strengthens not only Morocco’s sovereignty, but also its role as an economic influencer. By placing the Sahara at the heart of economic exchanges and infrastructure projects, Morocco establishes a synergy between its national interests and its continental ambitions, thus illustrating the convergence between the diplomatic, economic and geopolitical dimensions”.

In detail, the expert reveals that “The King’s call for increased mobilization of partisan and parliamentary diplomacy reflects a global and integrated vision for the management of the Sahara issue. By emphasizing the importance of active and coordinated parliamentary diplomacy, the King highlights the essential role of internal institutions in broadening international recognition of the Moroccan nature of the Sahara. This coordination, in particular between the two chambers of Parliament, becomes a fundamental pillar of Moroccan external action, guaranteeing a coherent and concerted response to international challenges.”.

In addition, the involvement of the Moroccan community, both inside and outside the borders, is also highlighted. The Sovereign recognizes the crucial role of Moroccans in defending national unity and territorial integrity, while saluting the invaluable efforts of the inhabitants of the Sahara for their unwavering loyalty. Furthermore, this aspect highlights the importance of national unity and social cohesion in the Moroccan strategy, where popular support proves to be a determining asset for maintaining and consolidating territorial achievements.

And to conclude, our speaker emphasizes the scope of the royal speech, according to him, the King reaffirms the firmness of the Moroccan position on the Sahara question, while advocating an approach of openness and regional cooperation. Morocco positions itself not only as a resolute and determined actor in the defense of its interests, but also as a regional partner ready to contribute to the common development and stability of North Africa. This approach, which combines firmness and openness, reflects a balanced strategic vision, based on proactive diplomacy, inclusive development and strengthened regional cooperation.
