SENEGAL-AFRICA-FOOTBALL / CAN 2025 qualifiers: Lions happy with the “good content” of the match against Malawi – Senegalese press agency

Diamniadio, Oct 12 (APS) – Players of the national football team rejoiced, Friday in Diamniadio, at the “good content” of the match against Malawi and the “great performance” of the team which allowed for the Lions to win largely against the Flames.

Senegal beat Malawi, 4-0, on the third day of qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations. Footballers Pape Gueye (35e), Sadio Mané (68e), Boulaye Dia (71e) and Nicolas Jackson (77e) are the Senegalese scorers.

”The objective was to stay focused, to play well first and then to win the match. We managed to do this. I’m happy with what we produced today. I hope the public is happy,” said Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara at the end of the match.

The captain of the Senegal team Kalidou Koulibaly said he appreciated ”the interesting content of the match”.

”We showed good things and good feelings on the pitch. The coach trusted his players and showed the way to win. It was difficult for him to prepare for the match in such a short time. We congratulate him,” added Koulibaly.

Al-Hilal player in Saudi Arabia, Sadio Mané, reassured that his teammates will quickly focus on the return match against Malawi on Tuesday in Lilongwe. ”We did a good job all week and I’m proud. We will continue the work to win and qualify,” he said.

‘’We had fun”

Pape Gueye, for his part, underlined that the whole team was ”at heart to win this evening (Friday)”, against Malawi. The Malawians put us in difficulty, but after the expulsion of their player, we knew how to manage the match. We had fun. There were some great sequences of play and a lot of goals,” said the first scorer of the match.

”I feel good. I keep playing club matches. I try to give my best. When we play for the country, we have a mission to carry out. And we give it our all. I’m happy. I work on my shots in the club and it works in the national team,” rejoiced the player from Villarreal (Spain).

Lions defender Moussa Niakhaté said he was happy with the result of the match. ”We have accomplished our mission. We trust the coach. He is happy to be with us and we are too. He is a great coach who has shown his qualities,” he added.

Senegal and Burkina Faso, with seven points (+5) each, took first place in their group for the CAN 2025 qualifiers planned for Morocco. The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday for the fourth day of the playoffs.
