Police investigating possible shooting overnight in Anderlecht

Lhe Brussels Midi police zone intervened during the night from Friday to Saturday near the Saint-Guidon metro station, in Anderlecht due to possible gunshots, she reported on Saturday morning. No injuries were reported. Police are investigating the incident.

Several residents reported hearing gunshots around 2:30 a.m. near the Anderlecht metro station. This is located not far from another station, Aumale, where several shots have been fired in recent weeks. As the park located behind the Aumale metro station is known to be a major location for drug trafficking, an internal conflict in the narcotics sector cannot be ruled out.

The police did not find anyone during their intervention but video surveillance images show two suspects attacking each other near Saint-Guidon. “One of the suspects pulls something out of his pocket that looks like a weapon. A few moments later, sparks can be seen in the images. So it’s probably shooting,” explained Sarah Frederickx, spokesperson for the Midi police zone. The officers who went to the scene did not find shell casings or other indications indicating gunshots, the area therefore evokes “an attempted shooting which did not cause any injuries”.

The police have not yet been able to provide further information on the circumstances of the incident. Further investigation still needs to be conducted.
