More than a month after the end of the Paralympic Games, some RER and metro trains continue to broadcast audio announcements from the competition sites. RATP and SNCF indicate that their gradual elimination is in progress.
“Next stop Champs de Mars-Eiffel Tower, Paris 2024 competition venue”. More than a month after the end of the Paralympic Games, sound announcements are still broadcast on certain trains and metros traveling in Île-de-France.
“We had integrated these messages into the trains’ computer systems. We have not scheduled any specific operation, so we have to wait for their return to the maintenance center. We then take the opportunity to remove the signage sticks and announcements,” explains Transilien at BFMTV.com.
A deadline of December 31 has been set for a complete return to normal. A similar deadline has been set for train stations.
A long manual deprogramming
Same organizational constraints on the RATP network. “On the most recent equipment, such as on metro line 14, we were able to remove the messages in one go. On trains, you have to remove them by hand and wait for the monthly maintenance cycle to do so,” we indicates the management.
A month ago, Ile-de-France residents interviewed by BFM Paris Île-de-France after the Games were not bothered by the maintenance of these announcements. “The fact that they are still there brings back memories for people,” Khaled explained.
“We are all nostalgic for the Olympics but we shouldn’t hear the announcements for much longer,” RATP confirms.
All may not be lost. Île-de-France Mobilités told us it wanted to take inspiration from the signage of the Olympic Games “in view of the positive feedback that has been given by travelers”, to install new marker stickers in the coming months.
