Dakar, Oct 11 (APS) – APIX, the agency responsible for promoting investments and major state works, received, Friday, in Dakar, one of the seven trainsets ordered for the second phase of the regional express train (TER), noted the APS.
Its director in charge of major works, Latyr Niang, received this equipment consisting of several wagons coupled, in the premises of the Autonomous Port of Dakar.
Other trainsets will be delivered to APIX by March 2025, according to Mr. Niang.
Construction of the second phase of the TER began in 2022. It consists of building the works allowing this mass transport infrastructure to serve the town of Diass (west), where the Blaise-Diagne international airport is located.
According to the director in charge of major works at APIX, operation of the second phase of the TER (19 kilometers) will start during the second half of next year.
To build this railway, the State of Senegal, under the leadership of the President of the Republic at the time, Macky Sall, requested Alstom, a French company specializing in railways.
The regional express train, the first phase of which was inaugurated in December 2021, has since ensured, on a daily basis, the transport of thousands of passengers between Dakar and Diamniadio (west), around thirty kilometers.
