Switzerland does not keep control

Switzerland has come a long way in the race for Euro 2025. In Lucerne, it snatched a miraculous equalizer against Finland (1-1) in a match which should have allowed it to keep control.

The selection led by Sascha Stauch now finds itself obliged to win on Tuesday in Bucharest against Romania to qualify directly for the final phase in Slovenia. She, in fact, ceded first place in the group to the Romanians, victorious 6-2 in Montenegro. If she does not win on Tuesday, she will only have her eyes to cry to the extent that Finland, which hosts Montenegro on this final day, will have every chance of stealing second place, that of the play-off player.

We therefore had to win this match against Finland. Trailing in the 72nd minute after a break in which the defenders showed immense naivety, the Swiss got back on track thanks to Luca Jaquez. The FC Lucerne defender appeared at the far post in the… 93rd to victoriously catch a cross from Bradley Fink. A happy outcome for a team which has not really mastered its subject. It will be appropriate to evolve in another register on Tuesday in Bucharest.
