Le Tichodrome, a wildlife care center in Isère, has put a fund online to help finance the needs of injured animals and its employees. The association is appealing for help to deal with inflation, lack of subsidies and other expenses.

Hedgehogs, squirrels, foxes, badgers, sparrows and birds of prey. A total of 1,800 are welcomed each year by the Tichodrome, the only wildlife care center in Isère. It takes care of injured animals discovered by individuals. Most of the time, the causes of their injuries are the result of human activities.
The association created in 2011, located in the commune of Gua, could experience financial difficulties by 2025. It is today financed by public subsidies, and 40% by own funds such as donations, support and memberships.
At the end of the summer, Tichodrome opened a prize pool, explaining: “We are asking for your help to allow us to have the means to take care of the numerous animals in care individually, while allowing certain working conditions for our teams“.
“We have to face expenses for welcoming animals and their care which have increased. We also never know in advance our subsidies which vary from one year to the next and we risk no longer being able to benefit from subsidized jobs, which is financial assistance for us.“, explains Mireille Lattier, director of the Tichodrome.
Inflation has in fact increased the operating costs of the structure: electricity, care products, medicines and food. The association, which collects donations and carries out collections, can no longer fully meet its needs. She is also forced to incur expenses such as specific disinfectant products or the purchase of dead prey to feed certain animals.
The average cost of caring for an animal is estimated at 140 euros.

The association approved for environmental protection employs six people with several reinforcements in summer, when needs are greatest, and volunteers who help all year round.
This is not the first time that the association has faced financial difficulties. Last year, she could no longer provide all the support requests. The structure was forced to accommodate fewer animals. This is what the director of Tichodrome fears again today.
“If we no longer have as many resources, we will not be able to treat as many animals. We will have to make choices… But no one else can welcome these animals“, deplores Mireille Lattier. The association, open every day, has estimated its needs at 30,000 euros, to end the year 2024 and start 2025.
The Tichodrome opens its doors for the science festival this weekend, October 12 and 13, to raise awareness and discover the association’s work with injured wild animals.
