IN PICTURES – Northern lights visible in Vendée and Loire-Atlantique

It’s a phenomenon who repeats more and more in recent months in France, and yet which was difficult to imagine at the time in our latitudes. The Northern Lights once again shined in the sky of Loire-Atlantique and Vendée during the night from Thursday to Friday, enough to delight photographers and amateurs, always on the lookout for the return of these lights in the darkness. End of a solar cycle

These northern lights have become more and more visible in recent months in France, although they were rare at this level. However, this is not surprising, because we are at the end of a solar cycle, which means more solar flares. The latter cause the northern lights, because they are loaded with particles sent at full speed towards the Earth, and which are conducted towards the poles with their magnetic effect.

Normally, there is not enough to come down to our regions, but as we are at the end of these eleven years of solar cycle, the eruptions are stronger. This is why we can see them in our sky, and this is also what explains their rather red or pink color, unlike the green ones that we can observe in Iceland for example.

A few more months with the Northern Lights

The color depends on the part of the aurora borealis that we see, because they form horizontally, pink or red corresponds to the lowest part in the sky, while green, shows that the we are at the beginning of these northern lights.
