Metal recycling: Samta is preparing to build its factory in Morocco for $70 million

Three years after the project was announced, the groupe Indien Samta is about to launch its industrial unit au Morocco. This is a metal recycling plant (mainly aluminum and copper) to be installed in Kenitra in the Atlantic free zone (AFZ)on a plot of 30,235 m². This project was the subject of a memorandum of understanding signed with the Ministry of Industry in September 2022. This was then followed by the conclusion of an investment agreement. The investment plan (Capex) amounts to $70 million. Samta Metals et Alloys SAthe group’s subsidiary Samta Mines in Morocco, is finalizing the financial and technical closure. According to our information, the company is negotiating partnerships with several donors, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a loan of $20 million.

In the preliminary phase, Velvet Metals et Alloys SA was accompanied by Deloitte to assess the feasibility of the project (market assessment, competitive landscape, raw material suppliers, tax framework, etc.) and define the company structure.

The metal recycling project will include a final production of 15,000 tonnes
