Strong swells in Hérault: three boats shipwreck

This Wednesday, October 9, three boats were shipwrecked due to particularly rough seas along the Hérault coast. A body, probably that of a boater, was discovered on a beach in Sète, while another man, seriously injured, was rescued in an absolute emergency after his sailboat hit the sea wall.

Around 4 p.m., the situation worsened off the coast of Sète. The sailboat, with two sailors on board, had already left the port when it was hit by strong winds, throwing the occupants into the water. SNSM rescuers managed to recover the boat at the entrance to the port.

Meanwhile, another sailboat was caught in the swell near Marseillan. Its three occupants were rescued safe and sound. However, a third sailboat is still being sought, with firefighters and SNSM teams being mobilized near the Lido beaches in Sète.

Faced with these events, the prefect of Hérault banned recreational boating around the port of Sète and recalled the risks involved, calling for the greatest caution and advising against swimming and visiting the beaches.
