SENEGAL-FOOTBALL / The FSF favors local expertise for the succession of Aliou Cissé – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Oct 9 (APS) – The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) will favor local expertise to find a national coach to replace Aliou Cissé, declared its president, Augustin Senghor, Wednesday in Dakar.

“We hope that we will not look too far for a successor to Aliou Cissé. Today I praised national expertise. I think my intuition will not deny me […] Local expertise has yielded results…” Mr. Senghor said during a meeting of the FSF executive committee.

The Senegalese Football Federation, however, does not rule out the possibility of using a foreign technician, according to its president. “This does not mean that we are closed to foreign expertise,” he clarified.

“Our first option is to maintain this dynamic which has spread in Africa,” continued Augustin Senghor, speaking of the use of local technicians for the succession of Aliou Cissé.

He recalls that many African countries were inspired by what Senegal did by appointing national coaches among their local coaches.

The FSF wants to “maintain this dynamic” consisting of using “local expertise”, he insisted, believing that the latter has obtained good results.

Augustin Senghor especially alludes to Senegal’s historic coronation at the 2021 African Cup of Nations, played in 2022 in Cameroon, and to the participation of the national team in the final stages of the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Football World Cup. , under the direction of Cissé.

“The only urgency is to win this double confrontation against Malawi”

“To the executive committee [de la FSF]we thought that the urgency was not to choose a coach right away. We believe that the urgency is to remobilize the troops, the collaborators […] They know quite well [l’équipe] and the players for [disputer] these two matches of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, against Malawi,” explained Mr. Senghor.

He thus speaks of the choice made by the FSF to let Senegalese technicians act as Aliou Cissé for the next Lions matches.

“The only urgency is to win this double confrontation to qualify [à la CAN 2025]. After that the search period for a [sélectionneur national]”, continued the president of the Senegalese Football Federation.

According to him, the executive committee of the FSF, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Sports, will establish “a short list” of coaches from which the future national coach will be designated.

“We have Senegalese capable of doing it, here, in Senegal, and abroad,” added Mr. Senghor when speaking of the position to be filled.

The Senegalese Federation was “taken by surprise” by the non-renewal of Aliou Cissé’s contract by the Senegalese state.

He also believes that the time elapsed between the notification of the non-renewal of the national coach’s contract and that of the publication of Senegal’s list for the match against Malawi “was short”.
