Dakar, Oct 9 (APS) – The President of the Republic on Wednesday underlined the urgency of overhauling the policy of national solidarity and social protection through better targeting of vulnerable groups, APS learned from an official source.

”Questioning the effectiveness of the public national solidarity system, the Head of State indicated to the government the urgency of overhauling the policy of national solidarity and social protection through better targeting and pooling of public interventions with the poorest and most vulnerable sections of our society,” informs today’s press release from the Council of Ministers.

The President of the Republic insisted on the urgent need “to update and expand” to new beneficiaries the programs of family security scholarships, equal opportunities cards, universal health coverage and transfers. social in general.

This should ensure, underlines the source, in the short term, a convergence of objectives and sustained optimization of resources generally intended for social protection.

According to the text, Bassirou Diomaye Faye also asked the Minister in charge of Labor to “ensure the evaluation of sectoral social protection policies and programs in accordance with international standards”.

In this regard, continued the same source, he recalled the importance of regular updating of the Single National Register, of the review of the application of the social orientation law n° 2010 – 15 of July 6, 2010 relating to the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.

“Added to this, the upcoming finalization of the single social security code to facilitate the pooling of the activities of the Social Security Fund and the Retirement Insurance Institute of Senegal,” indicated the Head of State quoted in the press release.

On this subject, the President of the Republic underlined the need for the government to “initiate a strategic reflection on the management of pensions in Senegal”.
