Météo-France placed 25 departments on orange alert for rain-flooding this Wednesday, October 9. 19 others are on yellow alert.
Stormy rains will continue to affect a large part of France. While 24 departments had been placed on orange rain-flood vigilance this Wednesday, Météo-France changed its assessment by finally placing 25 territories on alert.
Sustained rains will affect the regions extending from Vendée and Loire" rel="tag">Pays de la Loire to the Paris region, as well as southern Picardy and Champagne-Ardenne.
More precisely, the Aisne, the Alpes-Maritimes, the Ardennes, the Aube, the Eure-et-Loir, the Indre-et-Loire, the Loir-et-Cher, the Loire-Atlantique, Loiret, Maine-et-Loire, Marne, Mayenne, Meuse, Oise, Sarthe, Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Deux-Sèvres, Vendée, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-D’Oise.
Blame it on Storm Kirk
This episode is expected to last all day Wednesday. Météo-France explained that this situation was the result of Storm Kirk.
The forecaster also revised “upwards” the cumulative rainfall in Île-de-France. They could even “reach 50 to 70 mm in the Paris basin”. According to Météo-France, certain areas should see the equivalent of “a month” of rain.
Note that 19 other departments have been placed on yellow alert. These are Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Charente-Maritime, Cher, Eure, Ille-et-Vilaine, Indre, Haute- Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Morbihan, Moselle, Nièvre, Nord, Orne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Somme, Vienne and Yonne.
