An investigation opened after the discovery of a decapitated deer in Haute-Garonne

This Saturday, October 5, a hiker discovered a decapitated deer on the edge of a field. The macabre discovery calls out to the authorities, especially since another deer was recently discovered dead in the same region, in an area near .

The trophy would simply have been stolen.

It was therefore while hiking that a man discovered the presence of a headless deer on the edge of a field in the Comminges region.

OFB agents and the gendarmerie were therefore called to come and observe the presence of the decapitated carcass, the fate of which the vultures had already begun to seal.

Obviously, the first word that comes to everyone’s mind is: poaching.

And yet, the deer had already been declared dead earlier at the town hall of Aspet, the town where the animal was found.

In reality, the deer was found dead by the owner of the field while it was tangled in the fence and therefore died of exhaustion or asphyxiation.

He then moved the carcass to the edge of his field so that the rendering plant could take care of it. The head therefore mysteriously disappeared between the time the owner of the field moved the carcass and the passage of the hiker.

Despite everything, the gendarmerie and the OFB decided to carry out an investigation because, even if the animal had died naturally, the decapitation and theft of the trophy represents an offense.

Slaughter or death from exhaustion?

The bellowing period is not just a time when you can hear the deer singing and see the herds boiling. Fights between males are violent and sometimes fatal.

Another deer was also spotted the same weekend in the Pays de Comminges sector. The latter was not mutilated but was also found with his head stuck in a fence.

The animal probably got stuck in the fence during a fight and died of exhaustion.

The fact of finding a dead animal in the same conditions may call into question the fact that it is indeed an accidental death for the deer which was found decapitated, but the police will still carry out the investigation. end-to-end investigation in order to determine, on the one hand, whether the death of the animal was not caused by a shot and, secondly, to try to find the poacher responsible for the decapitation.
